We parked in Portmagee and cycled most of the way but you can equally walk this route. Note – there is a small car park at the beginning of the trail on Valencia itself – but again a great island to explore.
The walk itself is just great – views of the ocean and cliffs. This route also takes you past the famous telegraph field with a small momument showing the different cables and timelines of when they were run here from America.
Leaving the road (there is a carpark here if you prefer just a short climb) cross over the gate and follow the path up to the top of the cliff and the ruin. Don’t go too near the edge on a breezy day or if you get dizzy, the fall from here would not be a pleasant one.
From here though you can look across the sea to the Blaskets on a clear day.
Who knows you might also be lucky and spot something passing the island under the sea.
